- In mid of 2009 BMW decided to quit the sport end of 2009.
- To fill up the grid to 26 cars, four new private teams are entering in 2010, all of them using the new Cosworth engines:
Lotus F1 Racing, Campos Meta 1, US F1 Team and Virgin Racing.
- End of 2009 Toyota also decided to quit the sport, so again there are 'only' 12 teams on the grid.
- Because Toyota left Formula One, Williams has to chose a new engine suplier and decided for the new Cosworth engines.
- In November 2009 Mercedes baught a stake of 75.1% in Brawn GP and renamed it to Mercedes Grand Prix.
- Peter Sauber has bought out the shares of BMW with help of new investors.
- Sauber has been granted the 13th team entry.
- Campos Meta 1 has changed it's name to Hispania Racing F1 Team two weeks before the season opener after the team president Jose Ramon Carabante took over the team from former owner Adrian Campos.
- 14. Sept. 2010: Nick Heidfeld will replace Pedro de la Rosa at the Sauber team for the last five races in 2010
- Driver transfer 2009 --> 2010:
- Button switched from Brawn GP to McLaren, so McLaren inherited start nr. 1 in 2010.
- Rosberg switched from Williams to the new Mercedes Grand Prix team.
- Alonso switched from Renault to Ferrari.
- Barrichello switched from Brawn GP to Williams.
- Kubica switched from BMW Sauber to Renault.
- Glock switched from Toyota to the new Virgin Racing team.
- Raikkonen decided to leave Formula One for a one-year-off to eventually probe rallying.
- Fisichella will remain at Ferrari as reserve and test driver
- Trulli switched from Toyota to the new Lotus F1 Team.
- Kovalainen switched from McLaren to the new Lotus F1 Team.
- After an impressive showing in the last two races 2009 for Toyota as replacement for the injured Timo Glock, Kamui Kobayashi signed for one year at Sauber Racing.
- Michael Schumacher signed a three year deal with the new Mercedes Grand Prix team, so now we will have a full german Silberpfeil team.
- Pedro de la Rosa is signed along Kobayashi as second driver at Sauber Racing.
